The Genesis of Maroons

in Reunion Island

Maroons

Maroons are descendants of Africans who formed settlements away from slavery and fought against the colonization in the enclave mountains of Reunion Island during the 18th and 19th centuries.

I painted this mural in my parents' garden this summer in Reunion Island. The wall is about 15.50x1.75 meters long. It took me 15h20 to design the whole frame on procreate and about 45 hours to paint everything.

Thanks to Loïc Morel for his precious help!

I took inspiration from the Genesis and the cultural history of Reunion Island.
